On September 22, 2004, at 2:15 pm local time, Oceanic Flight 815 left Sydney Airport from gate 23 carrying 324 passengers, scheduled to arrive at LAX in Los Angeles at 10:42.
8 years ago today, we saw Dr. Jack Shephard’s eye open. He was lying in the jungle, bloodied and disoriented. He had been a passenger on Oceanic 815, which had just crashed. We didn’t know where he was. We didn’t know what caused the plane to go down. The show, the journey, the phenomenon had begun.

                                  Happy 7 Year Anniversary

September 22, 2004         Oceanic 815 crashes on the island.

September 22, 2004           Lost airs on US television.

September 22, 2011 I properly move into my UCLA dorm.

LOST so thoroughly changed my life. I honestly don’t think I’d be at this university if I hadn’t tuned in 7 years ago. As a sixth grader, I found myself researching John Locke, and Jane Austen, applying every new math skill I’d attain (factor trees, especially, haha) to LOST’s numbers, and yes, occasionally dressing up as Charlie at random with my checkered vans and taped up fingers. It instilled within me a drive to observe and research beyond that observation, to accept information in an active—rather than passive—manner, which changed the very way I perceived the world around me.
I love you, LOST.
I will always love you. Thank you for my childhood. Thank you for giving me friends I could count on to inspire (and confuse) me weekly. Thank you for getting me where I am today.
